Stoke-on-Trent Open 2014
A new tournement was put up by the newly formed North Staffs TSC at Clayton FC community hall on Sunday 10th August, and yours truly (Mike Bradbury) was unlucky not to win it. Winning five games on the trot and without conceding a single goal, he was up against veteran but still competing Colin Fletcher, once of Nottingham but now hailing rom Doncaster. Fletcher too had won all his games without conceding a goal, but had only scored 7 to Mike's 13, and thus a draw by any score would have been enough to give Bradbury the title, but a goal into the roof of the net from close range on the stroke of halftime was enough for Fletcher, and he was releived when several shots on the run-a Bradbury trademark-whistled wide of the mark towards the end, including one which hit the post. The day was an enjoyable success, with the morning being taken up by a Subbuteo collectors fair, and the tournement in the afternoon .The North Staffs club hopes to have its next meeting in about a month's time at Woollaston WMC near Newcastle-under-Lyme.
