Earlier in the day, Guy's powerful shooting had drawn gasps from the other competitors, as he looked set to replicate last year's efforts when he was undefeated. However, Mike had lost in the previous four cup finals, and was not about to accept a finalists medal this time, racing into a 2nd minute lead with a strong shot from the left. Guy came back into it but Mike scored a killer blow midway through the first half to increase his lead. Guy tried hard to pull one back, but two strong shots were repelled by the Bradbury goalkeeper early in the second half. Mike saw Guy was tiring and stepped up the tempo late in the game and scored a third from a fast move down the centre.
